Test results

The easiest way to see your test results is through the NHS App. It's quick to download and set up, and you can message us through it if you have any questions.

We recommend using the NHS App to view your test results. Download the app, register once with help from reception if needed, and your results will appear when they are ready.

For help setting up the NHS App, email us at nhsnwl.shcadmin@nhs.net.

How long results take

• Blood and urine tests: usually 7 days

• X-rays and ultrasounds: up to 14 days

• Cervical smears: up to 4 weeks

Your doctor or nurse will advise if any action is needed. Reception can tell you if you need to be seen.

Confidentiality

We only give results to the person they relate to, unless you have given permission for someone else to receive them on your behalf.

Blood tests

Blood tests help assess your general health, check for infection, and monitor organs such as your liver and kidneys. Samples are usually taken from a vein in your arm.

Children’s blood tests are done at specialist clinics — we will arrange this after discussing with your GP or nurse.

Smears are carried out by our practice nurses. Results take up to four weeks and are sent to you by letter. Contact us if you have not heard after four weeks.

Urine tests

If we ask for a urine sample, please bring it in a proper specimen bottle (available from the surgery or a pharmacy), clearly labelled with your name and date of birth.
