Sick notes (fit notes)
How to get a fit note when you are too unwell to work, and what to do in the first seven days.
For the first seven days of illness, you can self-certify using your employer’s form — you do not need a note from the GP.
If your employer requests a GP note within the first seven days, this is private work and a fee applies.
After seven days, or for ongoing fit notes, you may need to see a GP. If you already have a note for this illness, you might not need another appointment — contact us to check.
Important: Before you request a note
If you have already had a sick note for this illness, speak to us first — you may not need to see a doctor again.
