Repeat Prescription

Non-urgent advice:

Pharmacies can no longer send prescription requests on behalf of patients. Patients will need to request them themselves via The Online Method or by someone authorised in the family. If the patient lacks capacity/mental health issues etc. Pharmacies are only permitted when a written consent is submitted by patient to authorise the pharmacy and that it has been agreed with the practice

We strongly recommend that you use the NHS App (https://www.nhs.uk/apps-library/nhs-app/) to request your medications. It is straightforward to download and register your details. Then, you can communicate your request directly to your health practitioner for processing quickly. If you require further information on this, please get in touch with us via HILLCCG.SHCAdmin@nhs.net for more details.

After carefully reviewing our practice processes, we do not usually accept email and paper prescriptions due to potential errors. We might allow email requests in exceptional circumstances, e.g., frailty, mental health, and/or lacking capacity, etc. If you feel you are eligible, please get in touch via email stating your NHS number, name, DOB, address, and the reason why you feel email would be better and safer than the NHS App (or appropriate alternative)

The Online Method

Get a username and password through our reception staff (only needs to be done the once).

To help us…

  • Don’t forget about public bank holidays – get your prescriptions in advance. Please don’t leave things until the last minute as this creates unnecessary and avoidable pressure on the surgery during these busy times.
  • Some medication IS given to you by the doctor as a one off. Please do not ask for these via our repeat prescription service. If you need them, speak to the pharmacist or doctor.
  • Please remember to nominate a chemist so we can send the prescription directly to them. This will save you having to come to the surgery to collect it (although you can still do this if you prefer).

Medication Reviews

Patients on repeat medication will be asked to consult with the doctor at least once a year to review these regular medications and notification should appear on your repeat slip. Please ensure that you book an appropriate appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.
